Adam and Eve chose to disobey.

A serpent, a representative of rebellion against God, tempted Adam and Eve to eat (or choose) the one thing that God didn’t allow.  They ate (or chose) the thing, and disobeyed God. In an instant, the image of God in His creation was marred.  Something awful had happened. God’s creation rebelled against Him. The word is “sin.”

In our culture, the concept of sin isn’t taken too seriously. But from God’s point of view, there is something cosmically horrible about sin. We’ll talk more about sin in a minute, but for now, it’s important to understand that Adam and Eve’s rebellion destroyed their relationship with God. Their legacy was separation from the one who created them.  They passed their unfortunate legacy to us.
